1 hour canoe + 2-hour walk back
Glide downstream in a traditional dugout canoe past mugger crocodiles, kingfishers and storks, then walk back through the forest with your guide.
From $25 per person

Canoes are carved from a single silk-cotton tree and paddled by a local boatman. The Rapti is calm, and from water level you see mugger crocodiles sunning on the banks and the rare, fish-eating gharial. Herons, storks, cormorants and kingfishers are everywhere.
After about an hour you land and walk back through the buffer-zone forest, often passing the elephant breeding centre.
Yes – the river is slow, canoes are steady and guides have done this for years. Life jackets are available.
Neutral colours (green, khaki, brown), closed shoes, a hat and sunscreen. From December to February mornings are cold and misty – bring a warm layer.
Rooms a short drive or walk from the starting point.
