How to Reach Chitwan from Kathmandu and Pokhara
Private car, tourist bus or a 25-minute flight to Bharatpur: times, costs and which option suits you.
Updated 4 October 2026

Sauraha, the main gateway to Chitwan National Park, is about 165 km from Kathmandu and 150 km from Pokhara.
By private car (5–6 hours)
The most comfortable way: door-to-door, stops when you want, and a lunch break by the Trishuli River. Book a Kathmandu to Chitwan private car or Pokhara to Chitwan private car.
By tourist bus (6–7 hours)
Comfortable tourist coaches leave Kathmandu and Pokhara around 07:00 and arrive in Sauraha in the early afternoon. We can reserve your seat and meet you at the bus park.
By air (25 minutes)
Several daily flights connect Kathmandu with Bharatpur Airport. From there it's a 30–40 minute drive to Sauraha or Patihani – book an airport transfer.
From India or Lumbini
Chitwan is about 4 hours from Lumbini and the Sunauli/Belahiya border. We arrange private cars to and from Lumbini.
Tip
Roads between Kathmandu and Chitwan can be slow because of road works and traffic. Leave early, and if your time is short, fly.
